IS THIS REALLY TRUE?Claim: 1 = 2Proof: x to the power 2 = x*xThen taking the first derivative we get 2x = 1+1+1+............+xor 2x = xIf x not = 0 then 2x/x = x/xor 2=1Using the commutative property 1=2 QED.

I am in the 5th grade and I want to know what infinity is? Please explain so that a 5th grader (10 years old can understand).
1=2 is not right but I do not know why? The proof looks convincing.

ReplyDeleteClaim: 1 = 2
Proof:
x to the power 2 = x*x
Then taking the first derivative we get
2x = 1+1+1+............+x
or
2x = x
If x not = 0 then
2x/x = x/x
or 2=1
Using the commutative property
1=2 QED.
